| What is KENT?
KENT is one of the most powerful, AUTOMATIC, finite element mesh generation tools designed specifically for the casting industry. KENT generates a multi-component (casting, mold, core, chill, etc.) model from simple STL surface files. This method allows foundry engineers to take advantage of the solid models which many shops already generate for their molds and dies. KENT now features a new variable density meshing capability. This allows for substantially smaller models to be generated, which in turn allows for much quicker analysis runs. Near the casting surface, the mold elements are similarly sized to the elements in the casting. This ensures accurate simulation results. In the table below, the mesh sizes are compared, as well as the time required to run a natural solidification analysis on each model, with the relative improvement in the new mesh compared to the old mesh displayed in the last column:
